Brendan O’Connor
Meet Brendan O’Connor.
Brendan O’Connor is the co-founder of RaiseDC and with a tagline like “A Virtuous Nightlife” we could not help but be intrigued when we learned of his venture. Starting just a year ago (anniversary party details below), RaiseDC seeks to combine the forces of DC’s nightlife with fundraising for local nonprofits. In just one one year they have helped out 8 DC organizations with 100% of ticket sales going toward the cause. Win-win, right? We thought so too and were lucky enough to chat with O’Connor about the organization, its upcoming events and how we can all be a little more virtuous.

Ball on the Mall
This year we had a great time playing media sponsor to Ball on the Mall. Put on by the Trust for the National Mall (made famous by John Stewart’s Rally), each year brings out DC’s finest – from District celebs to A-list politicos; from star reporters to PR pros; artists to socialites. Ball on the Mall has a knack for throwing a great party that brings everyone together as we all have one thing in common: this city and the amazing things living in the Nation’s capital gives us. Also, not only is it a good cause, but it’s one of the most unique locations. Time and time again folks make the rounds to their usual stops, but rarely (outside of hooka night in college) to people dance on the National Mall. It’s like partying on the quad, but for adults.
All fun aside, we were happy to partner with the Trust for the National Mall and hope to see it happen with as much style next year. See you then.
Pump Me Up Preview Party
Last week, we gave you a heads up on all the events going on around town in celebration of “Pump Me Up: DC Subculture of the 1980s” – a new exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. On Friday, FamousDC was one of 1,100 cool kids at the preview party, where we got to hang with exhibit curator and graffiti historian Roger Gastman; Black Flag front man and Georgetown native Henry Rollins; and DC’s punk rock figurehead Ian MacKaye. Considering these guys used to represent the antithesis of the Corcoran’s standard coterie, my guess is they never expected to see an exhibit dedicated to their visual, aural and DIY ethos, let alone for that exhibit to be packed to the gills.
