Top Ten Things That Make Congressional Softball Great
We recently saw CQ Roll Call reporter Abby Livingston‘s article on the upcoming Women’s Congressional Baseball game public roster and reached out to her. When she replied, her pure joy that Congressional Softball was back prompted us to ask her to write a guest post. But before we get to the best things about the game, there are a few things you should know about Abby:
She is co-captain of the press team (hardcore), AKA “The Bad News Babe.” In real life she’s a political reporter at CQ Roll Call
They play for charity, the Young Survivtal Coalition, which supports women under the age of 40 who have breast cancer
Both teams practice twice a week at 7am (did we mention hardcore?)
Get your tickets to the Fifth Annual Congressional Women’s Softball Game here or visit their main website
She’ll be crushing it at the game on June 26th (True story, we had to postpone this article for batting practice. Again, hardcore.)

9. Former Rep. Laura Richardson leaving her ethics hearing so she’d be on time to the game last year.
8. Every other league I’ve ever played in made me remove my pearls and other jewelry before the game. This is how the Congressional Women’s Softball Game rolls.

Ball on the Mall
This year we had a great time playing media sponsor to Ball on the Mall. Put on by the Trust for the National Mall (made famous by John Stewart’s Rally), each year brings out DC’s finest – from District celebs to A-list politicos; from star reporters to PR pros; artists to socialites. Ball on the Mall has a knack for throwing a great party that brings everyone together as we all have one thing in common: this city and the amazing things living in the Nation’s capital gives us. Also, not only is it a good cause, but it’s one of the most unique locations. Time and time again folks make the rounds to their usual stops, but rarely (outside of hooka night in college) to people dance on the National Mall. It’s like partying on the quad, but for adults.
All fun aside, we were happy to partner with the Trust for the National Mall and hope to see it happen with as much style next year. See you then.
HiddenDC: District Lions
In the shadow of the DC Court of Appeals (or the National Building Museum, depending on the time of day) is a tribute so subtle, you might mistake it for a simple park. Three acres of space lined with cube-trimmed trees at Judiciary Square hold two rows of curving marble walls. Fierce adult lions and small lion cubs are perched atop these walls. The lions are a reference to the image in this quote from Proverbs, which is written in stone beneath one of the bronze cats: “The wicked flee when no man pursueth but the righteous are bold as a lion .” On those stone walls, the names of 19,660 fallen law enforcement officers are carved.

Feasting Famously with Beth Kanter
Author of Washington DC Chef’s Table Cookbook dishes about the book and more
Beth Kanter is a DC-based author who knows her way around the restaurant scene – from K Street to Bethesda, cookbooks to Michelin guide books; Beth knows the area’s culinary scene very well. Which is why I was surprised at how quickly she responded when I asked about doing this interview.
What do Tucker Foote, RG3 and Wolf Blitzer have in common?
They all made it on to this year’s WashingtonLIFE Power 100. They also (almost) all read FamousDC. Coincidence? We think not. A few who made the list: Tucker Foote, MasterCard Bret Baier, Fox News Wolf Blitzer, CNN John Breaux / Trent Lott Anita Dunn RG3 Ed Gillespie Jack Gerard Jose …
Go for the Gold
Gold Cup that is. But if you’re not feeling the printed sundress and mandatory ray-bans, no worries. You can slip into something classy instead for Ball on the Mall that night or just spend the entire weekend sipping margaritas because it’s Cinco de Mayo. Whatever floats your boat, we’ve got a little bit of everything for you this weekend. Shake it, DC.
Intern John
Meet Intern John.
John became infamous in the DC area the moment he joined HOT 99.5’s popular morning show, The Kane Show. From his “Loser Line” segments to his “Pitch Perfect” and “Saved by the Bell” references, John has DC’s commuters laughing in their cars as they tackle traffic. FamousDC had the chance to chat with John about his career move to DC and life in radio. Unfortunately, his adorable dog, Chuy, could not make it to the interview.

As April comes to a close we take a look back at our wonderful FamousDC Flickr Group. The photos in this group always make us appreciate living in DC and are the best part of many of posts. Go check it out, and feel free to submit your own images of the District.
HiddenDC: Fancy Edition
The ironwork of the Woodward & Lothrop building was repainted in 2011, changing it from uniform army green to a mix of colors as lovely as a field of wildflowers. Standing out among grey, squat monoliths, the façade’s origin, stamped across metal, is the Snead & Co. Iron Works, all the way from Jersey City, NJ.
An Open Letter To Conan O’Brien: Lay Off Our Landmarks
TO: Mr. Conan O’Brien
FROM: DC Residents Whom Are Proud of Their Landmark Establishments
Dear Mr. O’Brien,
On behalf of all District dwellers, we hope you enjoyed your time here in our Nation’s Capital. We truly love our city and we hope you were able to drink it all in while you were here – it always goes down smooth.
We also want to congratulate you on your almost perfect performance at the annual White House Correspondence Dinner. You were very funny. That is, until you started to make fun of the Hilton Hotel, the service, and the quality of the hotel thereby insulting a notable DC landmark as the staff and other employees stood in the back and listened. Not cool bro, we need to have a chat about that.
Sarah Palin Slams White House Correspondents’ Dinner
Apparently since her appearance at many of the WHCD after-parties in 2011 Sarah Palin has learned to hate fun. At least she introduced us to our new favorite word, “assclowns.” That #WHCD was pathetic. The rest of America is out there working our asses off while these DC assclowns throw …
Buzzfeed BBQ
After they weren’t given a table at this year’s White House Correspondent’s Association Dinner, Buzzfeed decided to host their own viewing party and broadcast the WHCD live.
If we do say so ourselves, the night was a definite WIN.
