D.C.

Rep. Dingell got a one of a kind celebration yesterday.

Derecho or not, this weekend is happening.

DC is all about government and all about drinking so with help from the Ladies Who Lobby, we decided to combine the two by pairing up our favorite DC bars with government agencies. FamousDC presents… The Department of Drinking Department of Agriculture (USDA) = Farmers Fishers Bakers Department of Commerce (DOC) = The Exchange Saloon Department of Defense (DOD) = Commissary *NASA = Rocket Bar & Marvin (the martian). You can’t contain space to just two bars. Department of Education (ED) = Science Club

Meet Josefina Urzaiz. Urzaiz is a DC based entrepreneur who started her hammock business as a way to stay connected with her Mexican heritage while helping people along the way. Her efforts have grown since launching in 2010, even landing Hammock Boutique a shout out from Nate Berkus! For those of you wondering, he picked the Thick Cord Hammock. Before going full time this past January with Hammock Boutique, Urzaiz studied Business and spent time abroad before moving to the US to attend Georgetown for her Masters. She then worked in New York City as an investment banker for five years. Luckily for us, Josefina had time to chat with FamousDC about the good work she’s doing, what got her started and where she’s going.

Charlotte Sellmyer works as a Cap Hill flack by day and photographer by night. She frequently shoots events, portraits and sites around the district. Follow, like or visit Charlotte’s blog to see more great photographs.

A Profile of One Chef & Three Owners Doing Everything Right at Beuchert’s How they’re locally sourcing, scratch making everything, preserving DC’s history, and proving Tom Sietsema was completely wrong. Welcoming, warm, and comfortable; old made new again; timeless in a place surrounded by the constant movement of people carrying ideas to shape and mold the world. The place is Beuchert’s Saloon, the wood is worn and bares the imprints of footsteps from the family whom called this place home in the 1800s. Rich with history; the colors deep, dark, telling stories – if you know to ask – of a DC gone, but never forgotten. The atmosphere is fantastically original, yet reminds you of your favorite bar in Alphabet City, the ski lodge where you had the best cider of your life in Jackson Hole, that old saloon in Austin that made the best burger you’ve ever had, or a memory of family and friends – Beuchert’s is truly a bar that everyone can, and should, call home.

It’s DC Pride Weekend so break out the beads and get ready to dance. Plus on top of that we’ve got a run down that will make you proud to live in this city so be prepared to have some fun over the next three days.

*UPDATE* Donate here to help Frager’s rebuild. The fire was horrible. And, yes, there are lots of awful pictures floating around on Twitter and Facebook yesterday. But we want to remember the old Frager’s. Frager’s was a place where you could go with any household repair question and they could …

We want your submission for the best DC Happy Hour – essentially a competitive sport in this town. [gravityform id=”5″ name=”Best DC Happy Hour” title=”false” description=”false”] Entries close this Friday so get ’em in before 5 o’clock.

Meet Elliot Spaisman. Elliot and his fellow co-owner, Jeff Halpern, are the pair behind Astro Doughnuts, the new Metro Center eatery that has become popular for its gourmet doughnuts and fried chicken – both of which sell out daily. Elliot and Jeff are native Washingtonians, and they focused on the busy red line metro stop because of the heavy foot traffic. FamousDC had the opportunity to chat with Elliot to learn more about Astro’s tasty creations and why the Washington Post has it ranked at the top of its doughnut competition.

Only three weeks into June, the D.C. heat (well, mostly the D.C. humidity) has everyone thinking about getting out of town. Friday afternoons will soon be less about hitting up happy hour and more about packing the car for a summer road trip. Some will head to the Eastern Shore. Others will …

Meet Rochelle Behrens. Rochelle Behrens was working in politics in DC when she created The Shirt – a button down shirt that doesn’t gape at the bust. If you’re a professional lady in DC, you have been there, but have never had a solution outside of tape or flashing your co-workers on the regular. Knowing that she wasn’t the only one facing this problem, Behrens created The Shirt which quickly gained popularity and sells in higher end boutique stores. Recently however, The Shirt team has launched a kickstarter campaign to make it more readily available. Behrens was able to sit down with FamousDC for a quick chat on how she’s revolutionizing DC women’s fashion and how YOU can help by supporting your local shirt designer on kickstarter.

Elise Foley’s hashtag, #FakeDCBars, took over Twitter last night and it hasn’t stopped. Some of our favorites: [View the story “#FakeDCBars We Would Drink At” on Storify]
