Congratulations to Tori Barnes on her new role as senior vice president of government relations at the U.S. Travel Association. Barnes most recently was executive director of federal affairs for GM, and spent nearly fifteen years with the company in senior roles. She is also on the board of the Congressional Women’s Softball Game, and coaches the Members of Congress team. #DoBigThings; Scott Stanzel, former deputy assistant to President George W. Bush and deputy press secretary for the Bush White House, has joined Capital One to lead its corporate communications team. Before this, Stanzel spent six years with Amazon, most recently as director of worldwide marketplace PR; As reported by Politico, Bryan Lanza is joining CNN as a contributor. Lanza is an alum of President Trump’s campaign and transition teams and currently serves as a managing director at Mercury; The newly formed Partnership on Artificial Intelligence has named Terah Lyons, former policy adviser for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, as its first executive director; From CSIS, Alexandra Viers has joined Boeing as a government relations specialist; NBC adds former senior director of communications at Dow Jones, Steve Severinghaus, as senior communications director; Siraj Hashmi is making moves from Red Alert Politics to the Washington Examiner, where he is now a writer and commentary video editor; At TIME, Kira Pollak, most recently director of photography and visual enterprise, is now deputy editor; From The New York Times, DealBook Managing Editor Jeffrey Cane is joining Barron’s as a news and features editor. Cane has also done work for Thomson Reuters and Conde Nast Portfolio; Most recently director of global trade and regulatory affairs for Diageo, Mark Baker, has a new role as Vice President of public policy and government affairs at Warner Music Group; Matthew Ballard is joining Burson-Marsteller’s public affairs and crisis team as a director. Before this, Ballard was a senior associate at the Glen Echo Group;Quicken Loans recently promoted Ryan Eaton from government affairs associate to director of government affairs; Speaker Paul Ryan’s office welcomes Ways and Means professional staffer Stephanie Parks as an assistant to the speaker; Walter Suskind and Kalina Francis both recently joined Edelman’s financial communications and capital markets team as senior account supervisors; Franklin Square Group welcomes Sarah Beth Jansen, most recently a senior director for government affairs & policy counsel at the Information Technology Industry Council, as a partner; Ward Circle Strategies adds David Molina, most recently a legislative specialist at Molina Healthcare, as an associate; Ruth Guerra, most recently deputy communications director for the American Action Network and Congressional Leadership Fund, has joined CLS Strategies as a managing director. Joe Sobczyk is now team lead for the Congress beat. Kevin Whitelaw, most recently Congress editor, is now deputy managing editor. And longtime journalist Sara Forden is now team leader for corporate influence; And finally, a big congrats to Gail MacKinnon on her recent appointment as the new executive vice president for government affairs at MPAA. MacKinnon most recently was executive vice president and chief government relations officer for Time Warner Cable. She also previously served as vice president of government relations for Viacom, and held senior positions at CBS, Telecommunications Inc., and Turner Broadcasting.
