THURSDAY JAM
Brought to you by Adam Verdugo of CBS This Morning
It’s a very simple song lyrics-wise but I love it because the feeling conveyed in the song + music video is everything I love about my home town. If you’ve ever been to LA, you know it’s a sprawling city. The song hits all the major landmarks and arteries and isn’t too proud to give a shout out to the oft scoffed-at San Fernando Valley. I listen to it frequently, especially when I’m on the road or not physically in LA. It brings me back. It was released the year I was born and the classic 80s music video was produced in an age when music videos mattered. It’s LA’s version of Sinatra’s New York, New York. I have fond memories of going to Kings games at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood and the PA blasting the song after a Gretzky goal complete with the crowd’s refrain “WE LOVE IT!.” And if there’s anything that happens in LA that I’m particularly proud of you’ll typically see a gratuitous tweet from me linking to the music video. I love LA. #TBT
