The Kentucky Society of Washington certainly knows how to throw one hell of a party. This past weekend we attended the societies 35th annual Pre-Kentucky Derby party at River Farm in Alexandria for a day of mint juleps, sear sucker and bowties, silent auctions, extravagant hat competitions and so much more, all of which was made possible by generous sponsors including UPS, Maker’s Mark, and KFC. Guests enjoyed the beautiful view of the Potomac River along with the extensive gardens and grounds that River Farm has to offer.
Although the rain was a bit ominous during the morning hours, that didn’t stop guests from pulling on their wellies and throwing down their picnic blankets to sip on some Makers Mark mint juleps and munch on KFC popcorn chicken. The ladies were decked out in chic floral spring dresses with gorgeous hats and the men were looking dapper in their sear sucker suits and colorful bowties making for a truly festive, Kentucky style event.
The silent auction consisted of a wine class valued at $500, a top shelf collection of liquor including Makers Mark bourbon, and southern style gift baskets including delicious snacks from Moonlite.
