A general overview of DC’s road conditions, brought to you straight from the FamousDC news desk.
General road conditions
Not so great. From NW to SE, road conditions seem to get worse.
DC got up to 30 inches of snow this weekend and most of that is still on the roads in many places. Our team has been braving treacherous conditions to closely analyze road conditions. Below is our report as of 12:00pm Monday, January 25th.
Georgetown
Not as bad as expected. Not much traffic and M Street is sufficiently clear for cars to travel.
Foggy Bottom
Could be worse. Main roads are fairly clear and traffic is moving.
Penn Quarter
WTF happened here? Roads are a disaster. Seriously, a snowplow should probably head over there STAT.
Federal Triangle
Not bad. K Street traffic seems to be moving at a fairly decent clip.
Constitution Ave
Roads are clear and there is very little traffic.
Capitol Hill
Right around the Capitol the roads are perfect; sidewalks are in great shape too. This is Congress; they had a team out this weekend cleaning things up.
Barracks Row / 8th Street, SE
Most of the side streets in the residential areas on Capitol Hill are still a mess, however the main drags: Pennsylvania Avenue & 8th Street, SE are in great shape. Also, it is borderline impossible to get a table at Ted’s Bulletin. Most of the restaurants open – from Barrel to Matchbox, have been printing money since the blizzard started.
George Washington Parkway
For the most part, the National Park Service seems to know how to clear roads. However, whoever was responsible for the stretch of road near DCA should be fired. Large patches of compressed snow and ice in the left lanes.
Old Town Alexandria
Ummmm… Not sure the city has gotten the memo that is snowed. King Street seems to be the only street that has been properly cleared.
Updates from our friends:
Would add: area around Kalorama, pretty fucked. Also: Mt. Pleasant good luck ever leaving your house https://t.co/iAxgu8r5zu @FamousDC
