Chocolate City Beer, one of the few craft breweries in Washington, DC released its oak-aged Imperial Stout Saturday at its facility located at 2801 8th St. NE.. The beer “Mister Mayor” was made with Marionberries. Clever, clever.
Snatch one up, because there are only 900 available 300 left, and two cases of it have already been commandeered by Schneider’s on Capitol Hill.
Mister Mayor was aged for seven months in whiskey barrels from Copper Fox Distillery, located in Sperryville, VA. At 11.5% alcohol by volume (ABV), this medium bodied and roasted stout packs a tart, fruity taste. The barrel aging has also infused the beer with coconut and vanilla flavors for a round, mellow taste.
Last Monday volunteers and staff hunkered down for a bottling session at the DC brewery. The team assisted with the labeling, cleaning, and packaging of this limited release brew. The beer will be sold in 22 ounce bottles at $12 a pop. The price sounds steep for a bottle of beer, but this isn’t Natty Bo. Think of it like a bottle of wine you’d share with a friend, take it slow. And don’t forget—everyone is doing it.
Founded in 2009, Chocolate City Beer is located in the Brookland neighborhood in Northeast, Washington, DC. Along with its flagship Cornerstone Copper Ale, Chocolate City Beer also produces Cerveza Nacional de la Capital Dark Vienna Lager, 1814 ESB, First Coast Bohemian Pilsner, and a number of other seasonal and limited releases.
Don’t worry if you can’t make it this weekend, the brewery is open every Saturday to the public for free tours and tastings, as well as 64 ounce growler and other merchandise sales.
