It’s that time again – for all you DCers to get out there and enjoy your weekend, which of course translates into brunching and dancing hard. I will be throwing down in the Big Apple so tweet me your fave picks and plans! Enjoy!
Friday, June 8th
Truckeroo – it’s baaaack! And, just in time for you hungry foodies who have a fetish for food trucks. So head on down to Half and M Street SE from 11am-11pm and dig in.
Masa 14 – last month, Masa’s roof deck opened after much anticipation and now everyone seems to be kicking it up there for happy hour or post-brunch fun. Stop by Friday night before your dinner party and check out the $4 rooftop happy hour from 5-7pm.
Wine in the Water Park – I know you DCites never enjoy crossing the Potomac, but the summer gem that Jaleo and the Washington Wine Academy throw each year is a good reason to rally. Just a block or two from the Crystal City Metro, you can enjoy vino and groove to the sounds of my buddy DJ Adrian Loving from 6-10pm.
Dimitri from Paris – I adore this DJ who released one of my fave over-the-top house music albums – “A Night at the Playboy Mansion” – years ago, and who occasionally comes to town to throw down his mix of sexy disco, house and old-school funk. He will be spinning a six-hour set at U Street Music Hall which maintains its level of divey, dancey fun.
Saturday, June 9th
New York Ave Beach Bar – a beach bar in the middle of DC? With sand?! Sure, why not – especially if there are frozen margs and a cool urban crowd and Sundevich’s first food truck doling out sandwiches on the property. Sounds like an afternoon of fun in the sun for those who can’t make it to the beach.
Beach Bash and Wine Fest – this outdoor fest at EatBar provides samples of 20 different summery wines, reggae and beach tunes, fish taco samples, hot dogs, boardwalk-style fries and posing in a photobooth. Think that about covers everything. Tickets are $25 and include tastes of all the wines; food costs extra.
Beer Pong – grab a group of friends and head to Midtown at 1pm for check-in and registration for the bar’s beer pong tourney. $30 per team of 2 with specials like $10 pitchers of beer (Peroni, Blue Moon & Miller Lite), $3 draft beers & $4 rail drinks.
Capital Pride Parade – this annual parade starts at 4:30pm and travels through Dupont Circle, down 17th Street and ends at Thomas Circle. Enjoy some raucous entertainment on the P Street stage in front of Whole Foods. This year’s grand marshal is Monte Durham of “Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta.”
Sunday, June 10th
Cheesetique – I have a fetish for cheese and wine so when I heard this Del Ray and Alexandria hot spot were offering a new brunch, I immediately got excited. Check it out this weekend!
Foster the People – post-brunch, head up to Merriweather and catch this dance-pop group who will be performing with the Kooks at 7pm. Gates open at 5:30pm for you pre-gamers.
