Ready for the weekend? Those of us at FamousDC are! Let’s get it started! *And, remember, if you have any events you would like to see in the Famous Weekend Picks, email me at [email protected].
Thursday
Vera Wang Fall 2012 Trunk Show – head down to Saks Jandel in Chevy Chase for this all-day, free event.
Take Five! – the Smithsonian American Art Museum hosts a free jazz concert in the Kogod Courtyard from 5-7pm that includes a printmaking demonstration.
Third Annual Capital Wine Festival – to celebrate the opening of the wine festival, the Fairfax at Embassy Row Hotel and its signature restaurant, 2100 Prime hosts a reception that highlights the 10 sponsor wineries. Tickets are $65 and further information on the festival can be found here.
Friday
Kennedy Center Millennium Stage – free performances abound on the Millennium Stage and you can catch a 6pm show this evening with classical works by members of the National Symphony Orchestra.
District – DJ Chris Styles will be present for the 2-year anniversary party at this midtown DC hotspot.
Mad Rose Tavern – DJ Pat Premier spins tunes starting at 10pm at this Clarendon bar. Pop in early for dinner or stop by Lyon Hall or Clarendon Grill which are both next door.
Saturday
1K Wine Walk – if you’re in Arlington on Saturday or Sunday from 2-7pm, join this wine walk at the Crystal City Shops (2200 Crystal Drive) where you can sample more than 30 different wines or beers as you walk through an indoor course. $40 for the wine walk or $35 for beer.
Washington Ballet’s Jete Society Mad Hatter’s Dance Party – for $95, you can dance the night away at The Ritz Carlton DC as you celebrate the Jete Society and all things mad.
Dancing After Dark – for $95, you can also dance your Saturday night away at this 5th annual party thrown by the Children’s National Medical Center at the House of Sweden.
Fatback 4th Anniversary Party – if you’ve ever been to a Fatback party, you know things get pretty funky. For the anniversary party, Fatback is taking over all three floors of Liv and Bohemian Caverns to showcase guest DJs and free tambourine giveaways. This makes me laugh in all the right ways.
Sunday
Perry’s – I haven’t been in quite some time but there’s nothing like Drag Brunch at this Adams Morgan restaurant on Sunday. If you’ve never been, do yourself a favor and go – the buffet is delicious and the drag queen performances are fabulous. It’s a swell time.
Jack Rose Dining Saloon – Sunday Fundays rule so why not pop over to Jack Rose post-brunch and grab their Winter Spiced White Hot Chocolate. Pick liqueur on the vast menu to add for the cost of a shot. Perhaps the Old Grand Dad Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon, which costs $11 after the hot chocolate is added.
51st State Tavern – head to this bar that caters to a NY crowd on game days for the Giants-49ers matchup. They open at 12:30pm and have many specials including $3 hot dogs, $5 burgers, and $16 beer buckets.
