With help from area car dealers, four of the region’s largest animal shelters will launch a summer campaign to promote adoptions during June’s national “Adopt-A-Cat” month. The four participating shelters include the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, the Washington Animal Rescue League and the Washington Humane Society.

At a press conference on Friday, May 28th at 12:00 p.m., the shelters will unveil their “Certified Pre-Owned Cats” adoption promotion, encouraging adopters to consider the benefits of welcoming an adopted cat into their home. The press conference will be held at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, 4101 Eisenhower Ave., Alexandria.

Area car dealers Don Beyer Volvo, Lindsay Lexus, Mercedes Benz of Alexandria and Jack Taylor’ s Alexandria Toyota are partnering with the shelters to fund a variety of incentives to make adoption more affordable during a time when rates of animal surrenders are up and households across the country are economizing. By joining forces, the four shelters hope to blanket the region with the message to adopt and support local shelters.
