The Republican and Democratic National Conventions are over, and they’ve left thousands of soundbites in their wakes. Some of them are weird, some of them are plain wrong, some of them are plagiarized, and some of them are really inspiring. Here’s our list of the most memorable quotes from both conventions.

Quotes from the RNC

CNN

  • “Remember: all of the people telling you that you can’t have the country you want, are the same people telling you that I wouldn’t be standing here tonight. No longer can we rely on those elites in media, and politics, who will say anything to keep a rigged system in place.” – Donald Trump
  • “I feel like the anchovy on Ivanka’s Caesar salad. I know you’re salivating for it and you’re going to get it.” – Tom Barrack (private equity executive)

  • “Every American has a unique identity. I am proud to be gay. I am proud to be a Republican, but most of all I am proud to be an American.” – Peter Thiel (PayPal Founder)
  • “Before my father passed away in 2007, he joked to CNN that he dreamed that Chelsea Clinton had interviewed him about the three greatest threats facing this nation. He replied, ‘those three greatest threats are Osama, Obama, and yo mama.’” – Jerry Falwell Jr. (President of Liberty University)

  • “Hillary Clinton wants a better title and I would too if I was already America’s Secretary of the Status Quo.” – Mike Pence (Republican VP pick)
  • “We’re the only children of billionaires who are as comfortable in a Caterpillar as we are in our own cars.” – Donald Trump Jr.

Melania Trump

  • “From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect.”  – Melania Trump, or, um, wait…

Quotes from the DNC

NPR

  • “Tonight, we’ve reached a milestone in our nation’s march toward a more perfect union: the first time that a major party has nominated a woman for president. Standing here as my mother’s daughter, and my daughter’s mother, I’m so happy this day has come. Happy for grandmothers and little girls and everyone in between. Happy for boys and men, too – because when any barrier falls in America, for anyone, it clears the way for everyone. When there are no ceilings, the sky’s the limit.” – Hillary Clinton
  • “I’m a New Yorker and I know a con when I see one.” – Michael Bloomberg

  • “The 21st century is going to be the American century. We lead not only by the example of our power but by the power of our example.” – Vice President Joe Biden
  • “According to Donald Trump, my body is probably like a 2.” – Lena Dunham (Actress and writer)

NPR2

  • “That is the story of this country, the story that has brought me to this stage tonight, the story of generations of people who felt the lash of bondage, the shame of servitude, the sting of segregation, but who kept on striving and hoping and doing what needed to be done so that today I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves. And I watch my daughters, two beautiful, intelligent, black young women playing with their dogs on the White House lawn. And because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters and all our sons and daughters now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States.” – First Lady Michelle Obama
  • “Donald Trump, you are asking Americans to trust you with our future. Let me ask you: Have you even read the US Constitution? I will gladly lend you my copy. In this document, look for the words ‘liberty’ and ‘equal protection of law.'” – Khizr Khan, the father of a Muslim-American soldier who was killed while serving in the Iraq War

  • “If you don’t believe this election is important, if you think you can sit it out, take a moment to think about the Supreme Court justices that Donald Trump would nominate and what that would mean to civil liberties, equal rights and the future of our country.” – Senator Bernie Sanders
