Fashionably Famous: DeNada Designs
By Politiquette’s Marissa Mitrovich: Politiquette is a place to be inspired by the art of fashion. Readers gain an understanding of the politics of why to wear–and the etiquette of when to wear–specific styles. Marissa Mitrovich founded Politiquette with the goal of bringing further substance to the dialogue surrounding style in DC.
On Saturday night, local fashion designer Virginia Arrisueño launched the first ever spring/summer collection of her label DeNada Designs with a party in DC that brought out some of the town’s most stylish individuals. Her collection of primarily neutral colors (she has the DC market pegged) was accented with a bright “citrus” yellow color that was thematic throughout the event down to the lipstick color on the real life mannequin model. Her lightweight, open-weave designs are the perfect way to slay and be cool (literally) throughout the summer!
The event was hosted in the “Hustle” exhibition space by DC’s No Kings Collective at Union Market’s Lab 1270. “Hustle”, named for the inspirational quote that may or may not be attributable to founding father, Abraham Lincoln, “Great things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle”, provided a stylish backdrop including pieces by many DC contemporary artists including Arrisueño’s husband, Kelly Towles.
This event was certainly the place to be for all things fashion and creativity, but don’t worry if you missed it as the DeNada collection is now available online here.
Virginia Arrisueño is the perfect model for her own designs, styling her bolero with a chic leather top and long pleated maxi. In contrast, I went bright for the event and wore a pink embroidered dress with oversized earrings made out of brass and bright blue yarn.
I am a sucker for sparkles so this dress and layers of jewels has me like whoa. I also love that Desiree Venn Frederic, founder of Nomad Yard Collectiv, finishes her look with bright white converse. Sneakers go with EVERYTHING these days. Emma McAlary is known for capturing beautiful photos of fashionistas in DC, but is a fashionista in her own right. Her vintage-style summer dress in a midi-length is perfect for work and play.
Overalls have been raging the past few seasons and calligrapher Jordan Munn makes them look like everyone should be wearing them. Her husband, Jonathan Munn also looks hip for the summer with his short-sleeved chambray button up, brown matching shorts and oxfords.
Are we at Coachella? Ayes Cold brought the heat with her DJ skills and palm tree print jumpsuit making the crowd think they had been transported to a really great festival, but it was better because we didn’t have to travel anywhere.
The great aesthetics don’t stop with Kelly Towles art, his entire look is on point, but I adore those polka dots! I am also loving way Jennifer Matta makes her gold metallic dress look summery with a rainbow metallic bangle bracelet and metallic bow flats.
Its not a DC event without a retro Redskins shirt. Filmographer Bobby Spero looks effortlessly cool in his vintage tee. While the National Portrait Gallery’s Mika Rivera is wearing one of my favorite colors for every season, stripes.
Glow on with your bad self Brandon Hill in the most amazing Nikes of the night. Speaking of shoes, I am also a huge fan of the Rachel Comey platforms worn by the stylish Meg Kelly.
