Shaq Hung Out with FamousDC, Wore Drunk Goggles, and Holidayed Responsibly
The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility (Responsibility.org) leads the fight to eliminate drunk driving and underage drinking and promotes responsible decision-making regarding beverage alcohol.
The legendary retired NBA player, Shaquille O’Neal has been working with the organization for over five years (he is also an honorary police detective) spreading the word about the importance of responsible alcohol usage. Shaq was first involved with the mission to prevent binge drinking among young people, particularly on college campuses. With the holidays upon us, Responsibility.org wants to promote drinking responsibly through the season of celebration. After all, going home for the holidays is only nice if you make it there safely.
To help spread the word, Responsibility.org hosted their annual #HolidayOnTheHill luncheon at the Capitol this Thursday. Scores of hill staffers, law enforcement officials, and activists gathered in Rayburn House Office Building to see Shaq present awards to dedicated members of the force against drunk driving.
A true gentle giant- Shaq welcomed the crowd, posed for photos (even a few selfies), and cracked jokes throughout the ceremony. He even told the crowd that upon the announcement of Kobe Bryant’s retirement from the NBA, Shaq has decided to come out of retirement and rejoin the league.
Famously Spotted at the event were: Rep. Darrell Issa; Rep. Richard Nolan; Rep. Andre Carson; Rep. Brad Sherman; Melissa Fitzgerald (Carol from The West Wing) and now Senior Director of Justice for Vets; Berry Gordy, founder of Motown.

What you may not realize as we move toward the holiday season is that DC is solidly lacking in the knowledge department when it comes to getting home responsibly.
A recent survey conducted by Responsibility.org shows how knowledgeable Americans are on important things like knowing the legal limit for drunk driving, knowing ways to get home safely and how to tell if someone is too drunk to drive.
Here’s how DC stacked up against the rest of the country.
Will you #HolidayResponsibly?
