Get excited, art aficionados. After a two-year long renovation, the highly anticipated Renwick Gallery is finally re-opening to the public. The Renwick Gallery is a part of the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Celebrations have been happening at the gallery all week long with awesome art-filled events, leading up to an open house happening all day on Friday, November 13. The open house will be running from 10am to 5pm, followed by a “Handi-hour: Crafting and Craft Beer” event from 6pm to 9pm.
The gallery will feature an opening exhibition, WONDER. The exhibition will include artwork from nine contemporary artists including Chakaia Booker, Leo Villareal, Maya Lin, and more.
To get you Washingtonians in the artistic spirit, here are some awe-inspiring Instagram posts that have been teasing us all week long, leading up to the open house tomorrow!
Impressive work by John Grade for the Renwick Gallery’s upcoming exhibition Wonder, opening Nov 13. This is made of plaster casts from an old-growth hemlock tree the artist found in the Cascade Mountains and it completely dominates the room. #EmptyRenwick (plus a tiny Maya Lin putting the finishing touches on her beautiful piece in the next room) A photo posted by holly garner (@golightly) on
