It’s a glorious Friday in DC and I’ve got all your weekend picks for fun right here. Oh, and make sure you give your Mom, wife, Grandma – whomever the Mother is in your life – a squeeze on Sunday! Enjoy and be merry DC party revelers!
Friday
Town Hall – there are plenty of rooftop/deck-style bars in DC to enjoy but why not give the newest courtyard patio at Town Hall in Glover Park a whirl this evening for happy hour or late night? There’s food, beers and stars – what more do you need?
Song 1: A Happening – if you haven’t seen Doug Aitken’s 360 degree projection on the outside of the Hirshhorn building yet, this might be the right time. The recorded soundtrack of the projection will be shut off for one night and live music will be provided by No Age, High Places, Oneohtrix Point Never and Nicolas Jaar — some of the artists on the recorded soundtrack.
Saturday
Ozio – an afternoon party on Ozio’s roof deck? Um, yes please. Drop by from 2-8pm for music by DJ Heat, food and drink specials from 2-5pm including $5 Ciroc and Bacardi drinks.
Dark Shadows – I was a huge fan of the vampire soap opera, Dark Shadows, as a kid, and now Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have brought the story back to life with a cheeky twist. Starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Burton’s lady love, Helena Bonham Carter, it’s sure to be a fun time.
Sunday
Mother’s Day – there are so many options for enjoying the day with Mom – take her to a chocolate brunch at Co Co Sala or Tabard Inn, for a picnic on the National Mall or paddle-boating on the Tidal Basin, or for an afternoon cocktail at the W’s POV which boasts the best view of the city. Enjoy!
Godfrey – if you’re a fan of FX’s “Louie,” you will recognize Godfrey from his recurring role on the show. In the past couple of years, this comedian has risen to greater heights than TV cameos and has entertained audiences at L.A.’s Laugh Factory, New York’s the Comedy Cellar, and now DC Improv, where he’ll hold down a four-night stint.
Monday
South of the Border cocktail seminar – we all know I love a good cocktail AND the fabulous Bourbon Steak in the Hotel Seasons, so why not combine the two with this seminar featuring Bourbon Steak’s star mixologists – Duane Sylvester, Jamie MacBain and my good buddy J.P. Caceres. The $45 ticket includes drinks and appetizers.
