Meet Ethan Klapper.
He’s been makin’ moves. After graduating from American University last spring, Klapper kicked his career off at National Journal and just recently jumped to Huffington Post as its politics social media editor. Luckily, he had time to answer a few of FamousDC’s questions.
1. Where did you get your start and how did you become interested in online journalism?
I got my start with online journalism at American University. At the beginning of my freshman year, our school paper, The Eagle, kept advertising that it needed Web editors. I had some Web experience from high school and I decided to put my name in. I was hired and stayed on staff for the rest of my time at AU. I also had a number of internships while in college, including two at The Washington Post.
2. So, give us the inside scoop, what’s it like working for the Huffington Post?
It’s very rewarding to work at HuffPost, and I literally learn something everyday. I work with some talented journalists who aren’t just good reporters, but who also understand how the Web works. In today’s day and age, that’s an important skill to have. Plus, there are free snacks!
3. What’s your favorite journo place for happy hour?
I’m a fan of Bottom Line. It’s only a few blocks away from the bureau.
4. If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring journalists, what would it be?
Always experiment, and learn from your mistakes. It’s what I live by.
5. Obama calls and wants to kick it for a day, where do you guys go?
We’d definitely go for a ride on Air Force One!
