Happy Weekend FamousDC readers! While I’m recovering from 2 slipped discs, I hope you will take advantage of my picks for fun this weekend. Hey, somebody has to party for me! Enjoy!
Thursday
4th Annual H Street Karaoke Championship – expect some crazy costumes and wild lyrics at this annual karaoke party at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hotel.
Apocalyptoon 2012 – Art Soiree hosts this 6-11pm party at Artisphere in Arlington that features works by renowned editorial and political cartoonists. $25 and ticket information here.
Monique Bingham – known for strong songwriting skills and soul-stirring vocals, this amazing singer performs at Liv with DJs Sam “The Man” Burns and Tee Alford.
Friday
Monster Jam – the big-truck lover in me had to include this weekend event at the Verizon Center. Throw on your favorite trucker hat and get down there for some crazy fun.
The Warehouse Loft – if you want to check out some soulful house music, head to this venue for a DJ trifecta: DC’s Louis P, Chicago house god Rod Trent and New York’s Danny Krivit.
U Street Music Hall – always bringing the best in electronica music with the demise of my old favorite, Club Five, this venue plays hosts to Philadelphia’s King Britt during its weekly “Red Fridays.”
Cities – I can’t believe it’s been a year since this restaurant and lounge first opened. Stop by Friday night for their one-year anniversary party, where the bubbly is sure to be flowing.
Saturday
A Black & White Affair – as I wrote last week, the TenFold Forty hosts this annual event to benefit a charity. Lend your support for raising awareness of cervical cancer by purchasing a ticket and donning your best black tie attire.
DJ Theresa – this NYC DJ returns to Opera Ultra Lounge for a high-energy performance that is sure to set the dance floor on fire. Bonus for the boys: she’s a looker. For free entry before 11pm, register on Opera’s website.
Josephine – Moet & Chandon present this party to celebrate Josephine’s four-year anniversary. Long-time DC DJ and friend Seyhan will be on decks.
Sunday
Chinese New Year Parade – celebrate the Chinese community’s welcoming of the Year of the Dragon with this annual parade through Chinatown at 2pm. Featuring dragon floats, bands, dancing and plenty of nearby restaurants for your dining pleasure, it’s sure to be a swell time.
Monday
Prevent Cancer Happy Hour – stop by Irish Whiskey Public House anytime after 6pm for this reception that honors the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s new initiative, “Stop Cancer Before it Starts!” Contact Katherine Kennedy if you would be interested in taking a leadership role, sponsoring or planning future events at [email protected].
Boundary Stone – if you haven’t visited this Bloomingdale bar yet, get there Monday night before 6pm for the unveiling of two rare kegs of DC Brau’s Penn Quarter Porter. It is sure to go fast! Tell Matt and Gareth Croke that I sent you.
