A little DC bureau news for the almost famous… Capitol Hill producer (and softball player, karaoke singer) Shawna Thomas (@ShawnaNBCNews) is taking her talents to the White House. FamousDC scooped the announcement from Antoine Sanfuentes, NBC News VP and Washington Bureau Chief:
It is my pleasure to announce that Shawna Thomas will be moving up Pennsylvania Avenue to become a White House Producer. She joins our top-notch White House team, led by Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd, to cover the Presidency.
On Capitol Hill, Shawna has done a terrific job reporting on the House of Representatives. She came to NBC News in August 2006 with a Masters from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School of Journalism. Prior to producing on Capitol Hill, Shawna served as an NBC News Associate, Political Assignment Editor, and Digital Associate Producer.
On a personal note, I know that her sharp editorial judgment, keen eye for nuance, and straightforward likeability will make her a great success in this new role, so please join me in congratulating Shawna on this exciting next step!
First to break the news over twitter was NBC Capitol Hill correspondent Luke Russert:
Russert expanded a bit more to FamousDC on his work with Thomas and lamented over Chuck Todd’s magical goatee:
“For the last 18 months I’ve had the privilege of sharing a 4’ x 5’ booth in the U.S. Capitol with Shawna Thomas. Besides being an amazingly detail-oriented worker, Shawna possesses a wit that is worthy of late night comedy TV. She helped me stay level headed during long nights effectively known as healthcare reform, government shutdown, and debt limit with her quick humor. Her ability to disseminate numerous amounts of complex information into usable bites for a minute a thirty second television hit is second to nobody. I have no doubt that this is just the continuation of an upward trajectory that’ll eventually end up at the top. I’ll probably work for Shawna someday. My loss is Chuck Todd’s gain, I feel like he stole my work wife away from me. It’s okay, I’ll recover…I guess it’s true…girls dig the goatee.”
Congrats, Shawna!
