Welcome Interns!
You’re three years into your poli sci major and you’ve secured an internship in a Member of Congress’ office. You’ve come to town to fix the economy, win the wars, solve this whole healthcare debacle and still be home in time for dinner.
While that’s all well and good, in reality you will likely be opening mail, leading constituent tours and being the butt of many office jokes. And did we mention you don’t get paid for any of this? To quote the late great John Belushi “my advice to you is to start drinking heavily.” Lucky for you there are a handful of bars on Capitol Hill that cater to the unpaid intern.
This is the closest bar to the Capitol making it the easiest to stumble to after a day of answering calls from cranky folks back in the district. Happy hour beers start at $3.50, while their famous margaritas go for $6.
This beloved watering hole offers $1 off all drinks during happy hour in addition to an array of food specials. Monday night are half priced pizza night and wings go for 25 cents on Tuesdays.
Sure your feet will probably stick to the floor in this Steeler’s bar, but you can’t beat the $2.75 beers and cheap burgers.
And then there is the Tune Inn. Stop by to admire the taxidermy and stay to enjoy the cheap drinks. Stick around long enough and you may even see a Congressman kicking back after a long day.
This Bears bar is easy walking distance to the Senate side and the outdoor patio makes for a great spot to spend the lazy summer afternoons.
Now get out there and make some bad decisions!
FamousDC thanks Correspondent @AliMcSherry for sharing the best intern bars.
