As you may know, the 137th Kentucky Derby is this Saturday. While this event is known as the “fastest two minutes in sports” many people revel in the fascinating (sometimes odd) names of the horses.
Apparently, naming a racehorse is not as simple as blurting out three random words after a few mint juleps. You have to follow a strict set of rules.
Since we don’t want to let everyone in Louisville steal all of the fun, we are hosting a “name your DC racehorse” contest via Twitter- with a beltway twist, of course.
Everyone who has an idea for a racehorse with a DC or political theme (and follows the rules) must post the name via Twitter with the hashtag #DCderby. We will take submissions and post the top nominations to vote on.
The winner will get a Famous DC mug, which can and should be used for massive mint julep consumption upon winning this contest.
In order to help get the creative juices flowing, here are some early entries:
DeMint’s Julep
Sure as Schumer
Reid a Book
Rand’s Running
Tea Bag Express
“Cursed by Rahm” and “Frankly Barney” will never get out of the gate because they are fighting with each other.
Good luck!
