Truck Farm is a simple concept with a big impact. It’s a traveling, edible exhibit that brings a rural experience to urban students. The Truck Farm project advances the notion that growing a bit of one’s food can be fun, easy and rewarding.
In an effort to enhance the educational opportunities that we provide, DC Central Kitchen is partnering with Truck Farm and the USDA People’s Garden to bring agricultural learning to the District’s urban youth. DC Central Kitchen’s Truck Farm will travel to schools and organizations, teaching kids about how fun farming and healthy food can be. This way, more DC youth will be engaged in thinking about where food comes from and getting excited about growing food themselves.
If you have an under utilized truck that you could donate to our project or if you want to get involved in other ways, please contact Joelle at [email protected] or by phone at 202-234-0707.
DC Central Kitchen uses food as a tool to strengthen the DC community. Through job training, meal distribution, and supporting local food systems, DC Central Kitchen is building long-term solutions to the interconnected problems of poverty, hunger, and homelessness.
