Meet Joel Church
I developed my new DC neighborhood product line to reflect the strong sense of neighborhood pride here — Hill residents love the Hill, Mt. Pleasantites love Mt. Pleasant, etc. Unfortunately there just aren’t a lot of products out there to reflect this. Sure, there’s plenty of DC stuff out there for the tourists, but not so much for the city behind it. The uniformity of the design reflects the sense that although we’re divided into different neighborhoods, as a whole we make up one city that we’re damn proud of. You’ll find a wide variety of shirts, coasters, fridge magnets, drinkware, gym bags all with various emblazoned neighborhood logos.
I’m a lifelong Washingtonian artist and author, and a recent transplant from upper NW. I published my first collection of DC-based short stories back in April entitled Fingerprints. I really like the energy living here on H Street and seeing the neighborhood transition from shabby to chic is really exciting. There’s a lot of hope here and a great sense of community.
