Twitter, at least on Capitol Hill, may be more popular than the wrap line in Longworth, but according to a Vanity Fair poll , the American public at large is not yet sold on the microblogging site. [via the Twiter Room]
Only 15 percent of Americans believe that Twitter is an important new tool for mass communication, according to a new 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll conducted in late August.
Don’t they watch Oprah?
Much larger numbers of Americans cast doubt on Twitter’s usefulness, or were otherwise unfamiliar with the social networking service.
Translation: 85% of those polled thought Twitter was worthless. Those "unfamiliar" 85% had also never heard of it, which kind of makes this poll irrelevant.
Further translation: The people that claimed Twitter was no use to them are the ones who likely still have very "real" and active social lives that don’t include @ symbols and avatars – which actually makes this irrelevant poll, fairly relevant – or at least telling – if not mildly confusing.
Exactly.
BTW: We do Twitter too.
