Thanks to all the creative and enthusiastic participants who made Round One of the #FDC Twitter Challenge such an entertaining success. For the few folks who are still confused as to what exactly the FamousDC Twitter Challenge is, our attempt to explain is below.
What is the FamousDC Twitter Challenge?
The concept was born shortly after Politico wrote about the most “influential” twits in DC. While we enjoyed reading the article, like most people who don’t take themselves too seriously, we didn’t necessarily agree with their top 10 list.
Twitter isn’t about how many followers you have just because you have a recognizable name. [insert @Jesus_Christ, @BarackObama and @Cher] Twitter is about what you’re saying, why you said it and who’s reacting to what you said. [Proof of that can be seen in the #FDC round one]
With that in mind, we began to closely monitor the chatter in the DC Twittersphere and the massive amounts of partisan tweets being fired off from both ends of the political spectrum. And while it was fun to monitor all of the noise, most of the interaction was all business. We figured if we brought all these twits together and challenged them to be more creative, we might be able to shake up the predictability of the tweets.
We huddled together at our undisclosed meeting location (you’ve all been there, probably seen us, thought nothing of it, and moved on), shared a few rounds of our favorite beverages and/or snacks, and gave painful birth to the Twitter Challenge.
What to expect in Round Two
Round two will be similar to round one, with three changes: the length of the competition will be shorter [10-3pm], public votes will settle close matches and creativity will count even more. [Hint: Any person that convinces a homeless person to hold up a sign with the #FDC hashtag will likely advance automatically (but only if they’re appropriately compensated)]
If a competition is too close to call, we will feature a poll to help determine the winner. Polling results will be worth 50% of the overall score.
Round one was a huge success and we’re looking forward to the rest of the tourney. Good luck to all of the DC Twits still in the bracket challenge, to everyone else, please stay tuned for more twit pics, twitter rap battles and face-offs.
We’re working on a sweet prize for the winner, so keep on tweeting.
Stay classy.
