The second weekend of my favorite month is HERE which means we’re that much closer to my birthday and Halloween. Shameless plug, I know, but that aside, this week also offers the Vice Presidential debate and several fun parties, concerts and more. Get to it DC!

  • Irish Whiskey Bar

You may only think of whiskey when mention of this uber cool bar comes up, but on Thursdays, they offer half-priced bottles of wine. You can’t beat that so get over there STAT. 7pm-close.

  • Vice Presidential Debate

Joe Biden and Paul Ryan go to bat in Danville, Kentucky at 9pm tonight and you can be assured a viewing at any Hill watering hole. My picks, however, are Tortilla Coast, where Ryan worked during his early days in D.C., Top of the Hill, Capitol Lounge and Union Pub. I’ve also heard Local 16 will be having a viewing.

  • French Underground

Brightest Young Things is one of our favorite blogs so it’s necessary that we give a shout-out to their two-night party at the French Embassy’s La Maison Francaise which features Parisian musician Wax Tailor and local DJ Chris Nitti. On Saturday night, there will be a debut of Tomorrow’s World – a collaboration between Jean-Benoit Dunckel of the French downtempo group Air (who I adore and was obsessed with their album Moon Safari for the entirety of 1998-2000) and Lou Hayter of New Young Pony Club, and Housse de Racket and Yan Wagner – both Parisian musicians on the Kitsune label. Also features will be an exhibit of works by Parisian illustrator Paul Grelet, short French films screening in the embassy auditorium and French food and drink. $20.

Though I have never seen this Swedish musician perform, I am confident the show will be amazing, as are most performances at the 9:30 Club. **Bonus: you can check out the latest venture by Eric and Ian Hilton (the minds behind Marvin, Brixton, American Ice Company and ESL) – Satellite – that offers….wait for it….adult shakes. #yummies

If are a fan of electronic music and have not seen this Swedish House DJ throw down, you don’t know what you are missing. Check him out at Echostage, which has apparently become THE place to see electronica these days in DC. Ticket information here.

  • Rappahannock Oyster Bar

‘Tis the season also for my fave fall food – oysters! I recently heard about this new oyster bar in the Union Market in NE DC and cannot wait to check it out. Make it a brunch date with your sweetie or bestie and enjoy oysters and champagne. You may not be by the sea, but from the reviews this place has received, it won’t matter.
