Throughout history, wannabe politicians have dropped out of congressional races for a variety of reasons.  Sometimes it’s because their polling numbers were too low – other times it’s because of family issues, or the fact that they have multiple families. Whatever the case, the excuses have been fairly predictable.

Until now. 

Meet Steve Rose.

Steve is a Kansas newspaper publisher who recently announced [last week] that he was running for Congress.

But things changed quickly.

Yesterday he dropped out of the race and was eager to explain why.  [too much information syndrome]

"It is with deep regret and tremendous disappointment that I must report to you today that my G.I. doctor has pulled the plug on my Congressional campaign," Rose wrote in an e-mail blast to supporters.

But why stop there?

As you may know, I have suffered from Crohn’s Disease for more than 40 years. It has been dormant for the past ten. In the past 10 days, however, under the extraordinary stress of the campaign, I have had a major flare-up.

Any more details, Steve?

I won’t go into the gory details of inflammatory bowel disease …

Thank goodness.

…but suffice it to say I have lost a lot of blood and seven pounds in that short period.

So much for limiting us to the gory details.

So, what’s for lunch?
