McCain attends a football game, draws a record crowd of 80,000

May 21, 2008

Remember this moment? Drudge called it an Obama “mass”.

We even posted about it here.

Well, unfortunately for those dedicated Obama allegiants, [and those enamored by photos of big crowds] it looks as if this “mass” of sorts, wasn’t quite built around the charisma of Barack Obama, but rather that of a popular rock band, known for drawing big crowds.

Newsbusters, the organization who loves to hate the “liberal” media, has reported it here.

What hasn’t been reported yet, is that John McCain drew a record crowd himself last year – right before some sort of sports gathering – which was clearly secondary on everyone’s mind.

And since the entire right-leaning blogosphere is sure to get all wound up about this, we figured it only appropriate to compare this entire ordeal to one of our favorite movies.

no matter why the people were there, that picture of Obama will carry him to the White House.

Oh I see Obama in the White House alright, only to confer with President Ron Paul about the dismantling of our government.

The larger point, I think, is that 75,000 people stuck around to hear Obama speak. Although McCain supporters attempt to down play it, it’s still pretty impressive. Makes you wonder, if all it takes is a free concert, how many times will Obama match or exceed these numbers before November, doesn’t it?

Yeah, keep thinking it was the band. Whatever it takes to keep your spirits up.

The MSM loves Obama and they’ll never tell the truth. They’re doing everything they can to elect him. This is why they’re always putting pictures of him in black and white so it looks “historic.”

Hurry, come be a part of this historic moment! You can be in black and white too!

Elections should be about issues – not emotions.

My ass they stayed to listen to him. They thought the Fresh Prince Will Smith was closing the show.

They didn’t show all the folks headed out when started talking.

Haha, The Decemberists are a tiny indie band. No way are they attracting a mass crowd of 75,000 people. Good try though.

Cindy is smiling because she is happy that a campaign event will finally take in more than she pays out–just think of all the Bud Lite a crowd of 80,000 can soak up.

BTW, I live in Portland, but I didn’t go to the rally–had I only known the Decemberists were performing! (Although I confess, I keep mixing them up with the Shinns). The fact that this was really a concert is going to go down in history as one of the great cover-ups. All of the local news stations (including the Fox affiliate) played along with the conspiracy, pretending in brodcast after broadcast that it was a political rally. When I saw the first post on NewsBusters I thought it was satire–I kept checking to see if I had stumbled onto the Onion.

I live in Sacramento. The Decemberists played at the 4,000-seat Memorial auditorium…in front of maybe 1,000. Yeah, they’re huge. Hey Bradkanus, if the people were streaming out after the band played then I guess you can credit Obama fro drawing 90,000!

I’m a big fan of The Decemberists (the band in question) but I really doubt they have ever drawn anywhere near 75,000 people! They are not nearly that big. I bet most of you have never heard of them. They may have padded the total – but I’m sure Obama would have had nearly that many there anyway.
