Update:  RGA Calls on Eliot Spitzer to Resign

“The Governor of New York should immediately resign from office and allow the people of New York to pursue honest leadership.  The American people are tired of corrupt and hypocritical politicians.  The Governor of New York is just another in the long list of politicians that have failed their constituents.” – Nick Ayers, RGA Executive Director

Gov. Eliot Spitzer (NY) informed his senior staff of his involvement in a prostitution ring earlier today – only so they could help him write this statement – released moments ago:

GOV. ELIOT SPITZER:  Today, I want to briefly address a private matter. I have acted in a way that violates my obligations to my family and violates my or any sense of right and wrong. I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public for my — who I promised better. I do not believe that politics is about individuals in the long run. It is about ideas, the public good, in doing what is best for the state of new york. But I have disappointed and failed to live up to the standard I expected of myself. I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family. I will not be taking questions. Thank you very much. I will report — back to you in short order. Thank you very much.

“Never talk when you can nod, and never nod when you can wink, and never write an e-mail because it’s death. You’re giving prosecutors all the evidence we need,” Spitzer said.
